Cross Country Adventure 2022 (day 17)

Shady Rest RV Park, Glascow, Montana

2 August 2022

Rodeo in town at Glascow, Montana - We just had to go see this Western event.

Marc-  We departed West Glacier and headed East on Route 2 over the Continental Divide passing through parts of Glacier National Park and the Blackfeet Indian Reservation.  Mostly we drove through very large ranches with rolling hills to the horizon.  Eventually the ranches turned into farmland, mainly golden wheat fields.  A more mixed farmland and finally trees appeared in Eastern Montana near Glascow.  Our campground is fine and does in fact have shade trees.  We passed the local fairgrounds getting ready for a two day Rodeo on the way in.  Our campground host recommended the rodeo and off we went.  It was lots of fun and the people watching was great.

A nice spot for a rest.  Amtrak Empire Builder on its way East.

We stopped to change drivers at this restaurant in the Blackfeet Indian Reservation (nice horse trailer).

The first rodeo event was wild ponies and three kids in each team.  The kids rope the pony then have to get one kid on the pony to ride for 5 seconds.  The last of five kid teams was successful.

The more traditional bronco busting event.

The next event was steer wrestling.  The cowboy jumps off his horse grabbing the bull by the horns and then wrestles the bull to the ground.

Another event involved calf roping.  Both men and women did slightly different versions of this event.

Both the cowboy and his horse are heavily involved since the cowboy jumps off the horse who is holding the calf while the cowboy runs up to the calf, picks it up and ties its legs.

Our favorite event was cowgirls barrel racing.

Sue took excellent videos of all of the rodeo events and I have yet to determine how to load them on the blog.
