Rodman State Park
Palatka, Florida
Marc- Moving day to a new campground a little less than 2 hours way. This Park is part of a 1960's era effort to build a Cross-Florida barge canal. The canal project was never completed yet 110 miles of it has become the Cross Florida Greenway that stretches from the Gulf of Mexico to the St. John's River.
The approach dock for the Buckman lock (the lock is 600 feet long, 84 feet wide and 12 feet deep). It is used mainly by pleasure craft.
Cross-Florida Greenway
The Rodman campground is well maintained with large campsites near Lake Ockawala and the Barge Canal. We were surprised to see that the Park Rangers burn the underbrush. We arrived just after a burn and some smoke was still rising under the tall pine trees (unaffected by the burn).
Palms and pines are all that remain.
