CODA : Sara arrives for crew change
1 November 2024
Wacca Wache Marina, Waccamaw River, Wachesaw Landing, South Carolina
I have yet to discover this species of flower. It forms its own little island and floats all over the Waccamaw River taking advantage of the reversing tidal currents.
A vintage yacht also floating on the Waccamaw (part of the snowbird migration I believe).
Marc- Well the new crew is here but we are not leaving until Monday in order to take advantage of some of the local treasures: Brookgreen Gardens and Huntington Beach State Park. It is also good to have friends with season passes.
I have been doing some major boat cleaning (all of the above deck teak that is not varnished). I replaced the broken bolt in the alternator with a hardened steel bolt of American origin. It replaced a similar bolt of Chinese origin that had a defective core. I also cleaned the hull including the white boot stripe that had developed a brown mustache.
One other project was designing and building a new helm seat.
Just got in this evening-- took a plane from Burlington, VT to Charlotte, NC to Myrtle Beach, SC.
Dad picked me up at the airport. It's warm here! And there are palm trees! There was also a cotton candy pink sunset tonight.
The marina's very cool! There's a snazzy restaurant with faerie lights, where I heard my first Southern accents of the trip! It feels a bit like stepping into a movie.
One freaky thing though: A L L I G A T O R S !
Dad says they could be lurking near the boats! (though he hasn't seen any at the marina)
As I write this, he's telling me, "I get a little scared walking around here in the dark because they can see in the dark, but we can't!"
Ahhh- I'm glad I didn't know that earlier tonight when I was walking over to the showers.
Dad just wants to scare me now. He's saying: "If you see green eyes staring at you, run!"
... I think I'll just be walking around during the daytime from here on out.
Good night, fellow adventurers!
