Cross Country Adventure 2022 (day 11)

Skokomish Park Campground, Olympic National Forest, Washington

25 July 2022

Marc-  Another family breakfast at Leavenworth this morning with crepes, cereal, oatmeal, blueberry muffins, yogurt, sausages and more.  Beautiful sunshine and cool temperatures to begin the day in the 70’s but forecast to climb into the 90’s by afternoon even in the Cascade Mountains.  We did not leave until 10:30 since it was only 4 hours to drive to the Olympic National Forest.  The mountain scenery was fantastic with snow still among the high peaks of the Cascades as we made our way West through various mountain passes.  Washington mountain roads were very smooth with a few exceptions and traffic was light until we reached the Tacoma area.  The traffic on Interstate 5 was like being back in Boston during rush hour.  Fortunately we only drove 30 miles on I-5 before regaining quiet roads.

Breanna and Andre greeted us soon after we arrived at our campsite.  The fir trees here are very tall and straight as well as thick.  Our campsite is about 200 feet from Lake Cushman nestled at the foot of the Olympic mountains.  From the shore we can see the high peaks and some snow.  I drove out to the local store for a few dinner items.  One of the customers was asking the clerk for a tow to start his truck.  This guy from Alaska was a regular at the store this summer and we volunteered to help him.  The old chevy truck with standard transmission started easily as I towed it about 20 feet in reverse (not something that would work with an automatic transmission).  Later we enjoyed dinner with family:  Asher, Isaac, Sabra, Sean, Breanna, Andre and Aubree (along with Huckleberry the jack terrier & dachshund dog).

Notice one of these kayaks is a log.

Oh no there is a YETI on the roof.

Oh it's just our sweet Aubree.
