The native venus fly trap at Carolina Beach State Park.

Marc-  Another early departure and 42 miles of ICW followed by the Cape Fear River and we were here looking for the elusive venus fly trap in the forest.  We looked hard for it in October when we were here last, and did not see it.  Well, we found a bonanza today.  This plant eats insects, as its name would indicate, and is only found within a small radius of this location (60-70 miles) and nowhere else in the world.

Our travels today were remarkable for favorable wind and mostly favorable current especially in the Cape Fear River.  We had been warned to plan for favorable current and beware of stormy conditions. We got the favorable current and the weather was perfect. We were doing over 9 knots upstream today with the incoming tide!
