Missoula KOA Campground, Missoula, Montana

Yellowstone River in the morning light.
Marc- The light streaming through the windows called me outside at 07:00 to take a look around our campground. I found that the campground is on the banks of the Yellowstone River and is very clean and neat. Sue and I greatly enjoyed our 18 hole miniature golf game last night. This morning I walked over to the riverbank and met a rabbit that was well camouflaged. I caught the sun coming over the hillside. Hot air balloons were going by overhead as I returned to the campground. I also liked the working wind powered water pump. Each campsite comes with a double swing, picnic table and shade tree.
Sue did the first leg of driving today getting us to the Continental Divide. We learned that Route 90 mostly follows one of the routes taken by the explorers Lewis & Clark in the 19th century. They did not find a complete water route to the Pacific Ocean but came fairly close. We followed the Yellowstone River West until it turned South and then headed over Homestake Pass (elevation 6,329 feet) to the Clark Fork River that flows to the Columbia River. The mountains were very scenic with much Ponderosa Pine. Arriving in Butte we saw the remains of an enormous copper mine that provided this city with its chief industry. From Butte it was all downhill to Missoula and our new campsite. The driving was rather dull except for some sections of the road under construction and passing or being passed by triple trailer trucks from FEDEX. The trucks would act like a caterpillar when changing lanes (going this way and that way).
Sun coming up.
A well hidden rabbit in plain sight.
Wind powered water pump.
Hot air balloons take flight.
Following the Yellowstone River.
The infamous FEDEX caterpillar truck.
