Myakka River State Park
Sarasota, Florida
A small Gulf intracoastal waterway beach in Venice along with ghostly images caused by late afternoon sun passing through the trees.
Marc- This is our last day in Sarasota. We went to 2 more Quilt shops in Sarasota and one Englewood. More beautiful fabrics and the latest in sewing and quilting technology.
In the afternoon we visited the Venice Inlet and its extensive public parks. We returned by the narrow barrier beach route to Sarasota seeing many fabulous waterfront homes. I was happiest just being by the water.
Catamaran entering from the Gulf of Mexico via the Venice Inlet.
Men and a dolphin fishing.
Miss Venice party fishing boat.
Venice harbor.
There are several small public islands in the harbor.
A great heron fishing.
Now the Quilting news...
A machine that makes precision fabric cuts in various shapes. This was at Flash Sew & Quilt in Sarasota.
The overlapping patterns in this quilt capture my attention.
Beautiful turtle quilt.
Avant garde dress.
Bargello pattern.
Lunch at Evergreen Cafe in Nokomis with Allison Fouts and Lauren Whittier.
Sue - The Flash & Sew Shop was very nice. There were 2 men working there (and at least one woman) who told us about the fabric cutting machine and showed us how it worked. I'd never heard of such a thing. It's pretty cool. The other fellow told us about the new line of Harry Potter Bernina machines. This store is related to stores in Naples (the most amazing one) and Jupiter (not nearly as impressive as Naples and Sarasota). The other store we went to, Sarasota Sews Sewing Machine Store, was OK in terms of pretty fabric and supplies, but they had no windows, several little rooms, and just a couple of little quilts displayed. They have a terrible space to work with.
The store we went to in Engelwood, Cedar Valley Crafts, was a special place. It was small-ish, but filled with exceptionally pretty fabrics. I can't tell you how they were prettier than many places, but they were. The owner was the only person working there and she was so nice. She had a few quilts displayed, the patterns with them, and I just really liked the vibe there.
Impressive fabric display case.
Messenger with news about a new machine from Bernina.
