Southern Camping Trip 2026 (aboard "Elsie" the land yacht). cont. 27

Collier Seminole State Park

Naples, Florida

Great egret.

Marc-  Well the Patriots did not do so well last night.  We watched the game over in Bonita Springs at our friends Donna and Frank Maher's beautiful home.  The food and the company were great.

Super Bowl party.

yesterday...

Today we went out exploring nature in this part of Florida first at the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary and then at the Big Cypress National Preserve.  Corkscrew has the world's largest remaining old growth bald cypress trees.

The great Egret caught some sort of fish and then flew away.

Further along the forest boardwalk we came upon a swimming raccoon.

The swimmer joined up with another raccoon.

We only saw one alligator hanging out in the sunshine.

This ibis was busy eating small fish.

Great blue heron.

After lunch at Corkscrew we headed over to Big Cypress.  This was more of a swamp than a forest. The Park warned visitors of bears and alligators.

We did not see any black bears but we did hear something running in the woods
 (photo from visitors center).

We saw several alligators.

Not my favorite creatures since we were walking alongside the lake on a dirt path.

Young heron.

Fishing egret.

I'd be uncomfortable around those gators also!
