11 February 2023, Southern Camping Trip Day 37

Cypress Trail Campground

Fort Myers, Florida

Orange store: Sun Harvest Citrus

Marc-   We started out the day by picking up our friend Roberta and going to the local citrus seller.  The Sun Harvest store had everything we wanted (honeybell oranges and tastes of fresh squeezed juice and different kinds of oranges) but the checkout line was super long.  We will go back tomorrow.  We returned to Roberta's place and walked around the extensive campus with lakes where she lives.  The highlight of the day was going to Thomas Edison's Garden Festival at his riverfront home and laboratory.  We arrived just in time to join a talk about Mr. Edison and his friend Henry Ford.  It was very informative about Mr. Edison's laboratory in search of the perfect filament for lightbulbs and of the perfect rubber tree for making rubber tires.

There were a lot of beautiful plants for sale - ordinary ones and unusual ones.  Also pots, all kinds of gardening supplies, and sweet treats.

Thomas Edison and a Banyan tree (a type of rubber tree), one of several that he planted on this property to see which would grow in the Florida climate.
