8 March 2023, Southern Camping Trip Day 62

Huntington Beach State Park

Murrells Inlet, South Carolina

Our camping spot under this big old live oak tree (plenty of shade).

Marc-  The only downside to this place is the reliability of its wifi service (some days it's great and some days it disappears).  Our backup is my cell phone hotspot which works until we go over our limit.  We have gone over so we are relying on the wifi.

Sue had a three hour zoom session in the morning and I went off on a Ranger led birding walk.  It was fantastic.  We saw many different birds and learned that certain birds that never wintered here in the past are now wintering here due to the warmer winters.  We also saw about 25 alligators as we toured the bird habitats.

In the afternoon we got together with our friends Peggy & John Brewster in North Myrtle Beach.  We played putt putt golf.  The boys' team won.  Then we had dinner at Clark's at Lighthouse Marina in Little River.  We stayed at that marina coming and going on our trip down the coast in the Lucy III in 2020-21, and Peggy & John came to visit us there, and took us on our first tour of the area.

Gathering place for the walk.

One of many great blue herons seen today.

Anhinga swimming (Its tail feathers work similar to a dolphin's tail in the water).
