Marc- Today was a travel day from dawn to dusk. We left Marathon, via Michael's deluxe truck, shortly after 06:00 to make the high speed ferry going from Key West to the Dry Tortugas Islands. Key West was quiet in the early dawn, we boarded and off we went on a 2 1/2 hour trip at 26 knots to Tortuga Harbor and the Fort Jefferson docks. While it rained and was windy and bouncy along the way, the sun came out at Fort Jefferson. This National Park is a mix of extraordinary military fortress complete with moat and lighthouse to incredibly beautiful natural features like water, sand, birds and fish. We explored both above and below water.
On arrival back in Key West we enjoyed a birthday dinner (thank you Michael and Doreen) at the Conch Republic restaurant on the waterfront. The Caribbean style conch chowder was outstanding.
