23 February 2023, Southern Camping Trip Day 49

Salt Springs Recreation Campground

Ocala National Forest, Florida

Looking down Salt Springs Run (This waterway begins about 100 yards West of here where millions of gallons of fresh water surge up from the Florida aquifer).

Marc-   We had a rather easy 3 hour drive on secondary roads to reach Ocala National Forest.  This is one large forest at 430,000 acres containing some 600 springs, lakes and ponds in semi tropical woodlands.  No issues at the campground and the site is well shaded and rather large with impressive spacing between sites.  Sue and I managed to walk about 4 miles on various trails after dinner (the sun does not set here until about 6:30).

Remember this guy.  The Rangers were burning leaves near one of the primitive campgrounds today.

Our campsite.  Please note the trees are no longer predominantly Palms but Oak and Magnolia.  We did see many small palms on the Bear Swamp hiking trail.

We were warned about black bears but did not see any on this scenic trail.
