Sailing South aboard Lucy III: 2020-2021 (Day 28)

Solomons Island, Maryland:  Calvert Marina:  October 1, 2020

Marc-  Today was superb.  We departed the dock at Herrington Harbor North at 09:00 and set sail for Solomons Island (almost halfway down the Chesapeake).  For the first hour we had a favorable west wind but unfortunately it dropped off until we reached Cove Point Light and the Patuxent River when a Southeast breeze helped drive us in.  We had a favorable current the entire day (we timed it that way).  The Calvert Cliffs were seen for hours as we made our way South.  We stopped for fuel at the Southern end of the extensive Calvert Marina. Unfortunately the engine refused to start when we were ready to move up to our assigned berth.  Eventually it started with a jumper boost.  I have replaced almost every component in the ignition / starting system...

Sue and I walked over to the Western side of the harbor to visit the Marina Museum.  We took a shortcut and missed all of the new shopping district but did see the old business district.  The Museum was closed by the time we arrived but we enjoyed walking around the grounds viewing the old lighthouse and a rebuilt skipjack oyster fishing boat.

Goodbye Herrington Harbor North in Deale, MD.  Michael is behind us.
