Sailing South aboard Lucy III: 2020-2021 (Day 30)

Jackson Creek Anchorage, Deltaville, Virginia.  October 3, 2020

Marc-  We were up early and hauled the anchor aboard for 08:00 departure.  Initially the winds were Northwest and about 10 knots until we reached the Chesapeake Bay and then we had 10 -15 knots out of the Northeast once again.  It was worse than the previous day since the waves seemed to have grown overnight.  For us this was still favorable conditions since we were headed South.  Nothing much exciting in the Bay today except a small brown bird landed on my shoulder while I was at the helm.  He visit was brief but he returned an hour later and rested in the cockpit.  The best part of our day was entering Jackson Creek and finding Deltaville.  This is a very nice port in any weather.  We were not alone as 10 or so boats also came in to anchor here.  We fueled up at the marina nearby and were informed that if you pay $11 you can tie your dinghy up and use the marina services including use of the courtesy car.  We took advantage of this to get to the supermarket.  The bath and shower facilities are excellent.  Sue and I found a park right out back of the marina with several trails leading through a pine forest.  I have seen no straighter trees than these.  One of the trails led to the Deltaville Maritime Museum.  We toured the grounds and saw several restored workboats.  They also had a bronze bird sculpture trail through a wooded area that depicted many of the area seabirds including pelicans (we saw a lot of these today), herons, cranes and ducks among others.  Before returning to the marina we once again walked through the pine forest and this time encountered a group of deer heading in the opposite direction.  I assumed they were trying to get to the grassy field near the museum so we turned back and proceeded on another trail.
