11 March 2023, Southern Camping Trip Day 65

Huntington Beach State Park

Murrells Inlet, South Carolina

St. Patrick's Day parade in North Myrtle Beach

Marc-  We went to the North Myrtle Beach St. Patrick's Day parade with our friends Peggy & John.  It was very well attended and lasted about two hours.  The main theme was throwing candy out to all the kids.  Everyone who attended was Irish for the parade.  After the parade we all went over the border to Calabash, North Carolina for lunch.  The restaurant, The Boundary House, was very good.  It is one of many that Peggy knows well.  Next door was a shopping experience at Callahan's of Calabash - it might be the biggest store we have ever seen.  It was full of wooden and metal beach, nautical, shore bird art, there were a lot of t-shirts, fudge, a huge Christmas section, it was also a card store, a giant gift shop, and so much more.  Calabash has a thriving commercial fishery and several excellent restaurants and shops.  Our last stop was the Vereen Park in Little River, South Carolina.  The park contains the Vereen family cemetery, forest trails, flower gardens, a waterfront playground and boardwalks on the intracoastal waterway.

Once back at the campground Sue and I decided to head up the beach to Murells Inlet on our bikes.  At low tide the beach is wonderful for bike riding.
