CODA : Exploring Peanut Island,
15 March 2025
Peanut Island Anchorage, Lake Worth, Palm Beach, Florida
We made it just in time to clear US Customs.
Marc- It all started so well this morning. Light winds and sunny skies. Good thing we took the Bonine before this crossing! It wasn't long before crossing the Gulf Steam to Lake Worth Inlet turned into being in a washing machine with 4 foot waves for 8 hours. The boat handled it well but the Captain and crew were miserable. We had both sails up but the 4 foot swells from the south just made us roll in a funny way. We saw very few boats, or anything else until about mid way when a pod of dolphins stayed with us for about 15 minutes. The dolphins were great jumping and diving along side the boat and then repeating the performance over and over again. Perhaps there were fish hiding under the boat? The water was so clear that we could see the dolphins under water.
We had to alter course a few times for ships and barges. No big deal. Sue handled coming in to the Inlet with style. No problem until we came to a dredger in the middle of the channel and strange yellow barrels here and there. The dredger was not operating when we arrived. I followed the track of a motor yacht from AIS to negotiate the yellow barrels. We had heard the motor yacht captain discuss the barrels with Harbor security but it did not make sense. Once through we sought out the first anchorage in to clear Customs before 5pm. Our first attempt anchoring in 24 feet of water failed. We repeated the process in 9 feet of water with excellent results. I rushed below and did the CBP Roam App on my phone. It was very easy to negotiate and we were pre registered. We needed to scan in both passports. No phone call from the CBP officer, simply an email stating that we were approved and all set.
For our next trick we needed to get off of the boat. We headed via dinghy to Peanut Island. This is a town Park built on a former Coast Guard base and it was the former bunker of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy. The CG base museum and the bunker were closed for renovations, but the Park was very nice.
Last photo from The Bahamas.
Always go behind these guys.
Peanut Island dinghy docks.
Nice welcome and even a nice campground for tenters.
Dredger in Lake Worth Inlet.
We had to go behind this guy to get back to Coda from Peanut Island.
Very smooth - no wake.
Sunset looking towards West Palm Beach.

Welcome back. Our country is a little worse for wear since your departure.
We know. The economy has had a significant downturn. Still good to be back.
Congrats! You made it over and back in style!
Thanks Craig. Hope to see you on our way north.
