CODA : Exploring the Abacos, Bahamas.
9 March 2025
Hope Town, Abacos, Bahamas
Hope Town Harbor with its iconic lighthouse.
Marc- We approached Hope Town with some trepidation over its shallow entry channel. First we anchored outside the bay with twelve other sailboats. We set off in the dinghy after lunch to explore the harbor. Our first stop was the Lighthouse Marina (a no frills kind of place with a low price--low in the Bahamas is $2/foot). Then we set out to look at any available mooring buoys. We met a nice lady and her little dog who explained that everything is taken. Some boaters stay here a long time.
A nice spot for Coda.
Hope Town was first settled by British Loyalists that arrived here in 1785 (leaving the American colonies).
This beach may be the reason the Loyalists stayed.
Colorful cottages.
The Village elementary School.
Yet another nice cottage.
Sue looking out the end of Queen's Street at the entrance to the harbor.
Water view showing the current entry path by way of water color.
A Lignum Vitae tree. The wood of this tree is used to make super strong blocks and pulleys.
My the chickens are thin here.
Entry channel.
Old Rudy Malone left us to go fishing (better than the Northeast cemeteries "Lost at Sea").
This is called an Abaco Dinghy, a traditional Bahamian workboat.
Beautiful boat named Mac & Cheese.
Another cool name for a boat: "Cattitude" from Kitty Hawk.
