CODA : Exploring Singer Island, Riviera Beach
16 March 2025
Peanut Island Anchorage, Lake Worth, Palm Beach, Florida
A park with a dinghy dock (very rare around here).
Marc- Coda did not move today due to high winds from dawn to dusk in excess of 25 knots. We still went exploring in the dinghy which was safe because these are protected waters. Our first task was finding a place to dock. It is next to impossible to find a long term tie up. Our friend Charlie Langworthy said he knew that Foster Park had such a dock not far from our anchorage. The Cruising guides describes it as a 10 minute tie up dock at a launching ramp. Charlie was correct as usual. The 10 minute sign refers to the slips made available for boats that have just been launched. The dinghy dock is on the backside of the slip dock and it had plenty of room along with some boats that had been there for awhile (and a sunken one). The place is clean and very nice with bathrooms and a huge parking area interspersed with many palm trees. The park also has a nice beach and protected swimming area that seems to be very popular with scuba divers and snorkelers.
This must be Phil Foster.
Foster Park beach.
Notice the people in full scuba gear just off the beach. It may be where people take lessons and take their exams.
The dinghy dock. The oil barge in the background sells diesel fuel to the local boats.
We crossed over one bridge to get to the Singer Island Beach area where there were several restaurants offering brunch specials.
The community gardens were doing well.
We enjoyed breakfast at a place called "Two Drunken Goats".
After brunch we walked over to the beach where there was a "Beach Tennis" competition. I have never heard of it but it does look like fun. It is kind of like badminton but with a pickle ball racquet and tennis ball.
We crossed over the ICW bridge that is also located at Foster Park. It is nice to see birds again.
We did not see a single pelican (or seagull) in the Bahamas, and precious few shore birds.
We walked over the ICW bridge to get to the Publix supermarket. The bridge has protected sidewalks on both sides. We got a nice chocolate cake for Sue's birthday tomorrow.
Sue: I probably shouldn't have made cracks about the Bahamian food in the blog a couple of days ago. We didn't go to the Bahamas to try the food. But it's not good for the most part. That was my experience, anyway. We went to the Bahamas to see the beautiful sights, and we saw plenty.
There is nothing that says "Welcome back to the USA" than a trip to a Publix grocery store. We got fruit and cottage cheese, Cabot cheddar cheese, eggs, and the lovely cake. Of those things that we were able to buy in the Bahamas, we paid 1/2 price or less, and got better quality. We also got in a good walk. Peanut Island is a super nice place. We would like to return there when the Coastguard and JFK museums re-open.
