Sailing South aboard Lucy III: 2020-2021 (Day 39)

River Dunes Marina, Oriental, North Carolina. October 12, 2020

Marc - We awoke this morning to fog at 06:30.  We call this pea soup fog in New England since it is impossible to see through.  After spending two hours doing chores we decided to just go.  The fog had lifted a little and we do have a very well equipped boat with Radar, GPS and AIS. We even have two fog horns. It really was not a problem but it did slow us down.  Conditions were calm throughout the day and there were no navigation issues.  I did notice many more powerboats traveling South today as we were passed at least 20 times.  A few did the slow pass and that was appreciated.  Most boats just flew by us and some made large wakes but Lucy III handled them all very well.

The marina here is like stepping into a Disney World resort village with high end homes, a market, a cafe, a chapel, manicured lawns, even gaslights.  We enjoyed dinner outside at Yawl's Café.  The food (loaded turkey sandwich and butternut squash soup) was fantastic and very reasonably priced.

We had fog in the morning

There were spider webs aplenty

Some brave souls left in the fog

We took a hike and found more deer in the neighborhood (look very closely)

RE Mayo Seafood Company coming up on the right with shrimp boats unloading.

Michael and Doreen stopped over and got us some flash frozen shrimp and flounder

Having a Yawl, this place made us feel at home

We also had very special Tartan 34c Association members, John & Georgie Jackson, owners of Georgie Girl, come over and visit us here with wine and cheese as well as terrific sailing stories.
