Sailing South aboard Lucy III: 2020-2021 (Day 45)

Myrtle Beach Yacht Club, Little River, South Carolina:  October 18, 2020

Marc-  Once again we started off at 07:30 to get through the low spots on this section of the ICW and it worked well.  We continued to have a North wind of 10 knots.  There was some excitement as we approached a bend in the ICW and heard "Lucy III, Lucy III this is the Tug Otter pushing a 300 foot barge and about to come into your view.  Can you move your vessel over to your starboard side of the channel?"  I quickly responded in the affirmative and moved over as far as I could given our depth requirements and watching the depth finder carefully.  We passed each other without a problem. It was clear that the tugboat captain had seen our boat on his AIS.  We arrived at 12:30 and went directly to the fuel dock.  This is a very nice large marina in the middle of an extensive housing development.  This place actually has three different marinas and two restaurants functioning on site. The staff could not have been more helpful.  Our friends John and Peggy Brewster from North Myrtle Beach came over with two cars and took us, Michael & Doreen on a tour of the area and their beautiful home.  We stopped at the redeveloped Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, now known as Market Common, for lunch and enjoyed eating outside at Tupelo Honey Restaurant.  The food was excellent. We walked through a nearby park and also visited a display of fighter aircraft that were based here.  On our return trip we stopped over to see the Barefoot Marina and noticed its limited docking availability and current construction.  We are much better off in our current marina.

Thank you, Peggy & John!
