Sailing South aboard Lucy III: 2020-2021 (Day 41)

Mile Hammock Bay Anchorage, USMC Camp LeJeune,, North Carolina. October 14, 2020

Marc-  We left the dock at 07:30 to try to get a favorable current South from Morehead City to Swansboro.  We succeeded in getting both a favorable current as well as a favorable Northwest wind of 15 knots.  The Inlet near Swansboro changed our 7 to 8 knot speed to 4 to 5 knot speed.  The outgoing tide was pulling from both sides of the ICW.  We picked up a certain amount of speed after a few miles until we reached the Onslow Bay Swing Bridge at Camp LeJeune.  It only opens on the half hour so we waited about 20 minutes for an opening.  There was plenty to watch from SeaTow pulling a fishing boat  off the beach to shore fishermen reeling in a catch.  At one point we saw several dolphins swim by the boat and we noticed that they were a lighter gray then dolphins seen up North.  Anchoring in Mile Hammock Bay was easy and we have Fiddler's Green rafted to us for now.  We are planning a joint fish fry this evening with flounder, shrimp and veggies.

We saw this boat actually fishing in the ICW.

The local seagull population was very interested in this boat.

More dolphins today.
