CODA BAHAMAS BOUND 2024-2025 (24)

CODA : Fairwinds and a following sea to Deltaville

18 October 2024

Jackson Creek anchorage, Deltaville,  Virginia

Motorsailing down Chesapeake Bay. There are 24 sailboats around us mostly at a distance.

Marc-    Early to rise once again and the Southbound of the Chesapeake for another 60 mile day.  The wind was less today and the waves were a bit smaller.  Nothing very exciting except some some very loud FA-18 Hornet fighter jets flying over the Bay.  Two Navy boats passed in front of us towing very small barges equipped with a sort of target on each.  At least they were not using the sailboats to practice on.  We entered Virginia by crossing the Potomac River.  I have thought of sailing up to Washington, DC via the Potomac but it's a 300 mile detour.  We made Deltaville by 16:00 and anchored at the end of Jackson Creek.  The Jackson Creek marina is very welcoming to boaters and allows those anchored to use the dinghy docks with access to showers, laundry, loaner bikes and even a loaner car for a nominal fee.

Part of the anchored fleet mostly headed to the Bahamas.

Jackson Creek Marina used to be Deltaville Marine. Is it Safe Harbor now? If I every have to repower Rosie I will take to them. They've done Lord Nelsons before. When we were there in 2019 there were two LNVT's on the hard, Rosie and another, Le Papa, that used to live in Converse Bay. 4 of them!!!

We had a much needed short stay there on our way home and it was a great place with community. Bummed it is now Safe Harbor.
